Musical Director - Veronica Boulton

Veronica has had extensive experience as a musician and music educator. Her qualifications include studies at Adelaide University: Bachelor of Music, Batchelor of Art (English) and Graduate Diploma in Education, in 2004 she completed an Associate Diploma in performance with Trinity College of London.

As a conductor, Veronica has had a wide range of experiences, including school bands and choirs, junior and senior brass and concert bands. Some of these include: a “Symphony Australia Conducting Course”, directed by Graham Abbott (one of five selected from Australia to participate); Hahndorf Town Band Junior Band (SA); Marymount College Vocal Ensemble and Festival Choir; Kensington & Norwood Youth Brass (SA); “The Bacchae”, a South Australian Theatre Production; Heidleberg Youth Brass (VIC): Morwell Citizens’ Band and Junior Band (VIC).

Veronica has been a music teacher for 20 years, having taught both classroom and instrumental, and from 2008 will be Director of Music at Mount Barker Waldorf School. As well as working full time as a classroom teacher, Veronica continues to tutor Marion City Band brass students after hours. In 2005 Veronica was presented with an award by the City of Marion as part of their ‘Learner’s Week’, in recognition of her efforts with Marion Band.

Veronica began studying the piano at the age of five, and has been performing as a musician since the age of seven, when she first appeared on an eisteddfod stage as a vocalist. Since then, Veronica has continued to enjoy performance, both professionally and as an amateur, including performing with: the Elder Conservatorium Ensemble (horn); the Monash University Wind Ensemble (horn); amateur stage productions in VIC and SA (horn); the A Grade brass bands Kew Band (horn); Darebin Brass (cornet & horn), Hawthorn Band (percussion), Kensington and Norwood Brass (flugel horn & horn) and was selected as one of three horn players nationally to participate in the first ‘Australian Brass’; chorus roles with the Latrobe Light Opera Society; lead vocal with Blackburn High School production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury; and currently Veronica plays tenor horn with Tanunda Town Band in South Australia.

As an adjudicator, Veronica has been prominent around Australia recently, having adjudicated the Eyre Peninsula, Adelaide, Taree, Gold Coast, Orange and Wimmera eisteddfods
