Marion City Band

Marion City Band emerged late in 1969 following growing community interest to form a band for local students beyond their formal years of schooling. Mitchell Park Boys Technical School provided the initial swag of ‘budding’ musicians. They were subsequently joined by other youngsters and some folk not so young, to boost the fledgling group

Once the embryo began to gather impetus a stroke of good fortune emerged, the City Council of Marion offered major sponsorship!  The main thrust came with the purchase of a full set of new instruments fully funded by Council. Such was the enthusiasm of Council and the Community to support ‘their own’ Brass Band.

This support has continued over the years ... the original set of instruments was replaced 10 years ago. More recently Council provided the new uniform the band currently wears.

All those associated with Marion City Band are grateful for Council support and are proud to serve Council and the Marion Community.

Warriparinga Brass

Continuing Marion’s long term development programme, in 2003 the Band appointed Veronica Boulton Musical Director; within weeks a training band was formed. Both children and adults were invited to join. This band is Warriparinga Brass - taking its name from the local indigenous  area.

In 2004 the band extended the training program to include the Learners’ Class giving an opportunity for both children and adults to learn a brass instrument from ‘scratch’. On completion of the 20-week program, learners progress to Warriparinga Brass.

Since 2005 the youngsters of Warriparinga have taken part in State and many other Brass Competitions; their enthusiasm and enjoyment in taking part abounds. They appear regularly through the year at Concerts and Christmas events
