2008 SABA Band Camp

The SA Band Association is pleased to announce a major new developmental initiative for 2008 – the SABA Band Camp.

The SABA Band Camp, a non-residential camp, will be conducted at Prince Alfred College between Wednesday 16 and Saturday 19 July. The Camp will operate a youth brass band and two youth concert bands during the day, and open age brass and concert bands in the evening.

The SA State Solo Championships will be held at Pembroke School on the 14-15 June. Adjudicator for the Senior competition will be Mr David Polain, Musical Director of the Tanunda Town Band. Mr Mark C. Smith, Conductor of the SA Police Rangers Band, will preside over the Junior competition.

SA Band Association has reintroduced ensembles this year.

SABA has this year introduced an Aggregate Prize for the State Solo and Band Championships. Points will be awarded for participation in the solo and party events, but also for volunteers who donate their time and expertise to assist the running of the Championships.

The Unley Concert Band will travel to Sydney at Easter 2009 to contest the Australian National Band Championships, and will then fly to Europe for a 12 day tour of France to support ANZAC Day services and commemorations on the battlefields of the Western Front.

The Unley Concert Band will be working in conjunction with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the Australian Embassy in Paris to provide music for services and commemorations in such famous locations as Ypres, Bullecourt, Amiens, and Villers- Bretonneux. The Unley Concert Band will also give a concert in Paris and provide music for La Flamme – the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arc de triomphe.
